Panch Tattva
Good Luck & Ritual
Traditional practices of fortune and wellbeing.
Ritual is one of the most universal human behaviours there is, and it does something real - though not always what it is claimed to do.
What ritual demonstrably does
It reduces anxiety before uncertain events; this has been shown repeatedly in controlled settings. It marks transitions, which helps people process change. It binds communities, and community is one of the strongest predictors of long-term health there is. And it creates structure, which is genuinely stabilising in difficult periods.
None of that requires believing the ritual influences the outcome. It works on the person performing it, which is not a small thing.
Lighting a lamp will not change the result. It may well change the person waiting for it - and that is worth something.
Where we draw the line
HealthyWin will not tell you that a ritual, a stone, a thread or a puja treats disease. Where it becomes actively harmful is when it is offered as a substitute for medicine - and in India, the most damaging version of this is faith-based treatment of mental illness, epilepsy and infectious disease. People are hurt by it every year.
A reasonable position
Practise what is meaningful to you. Take your medicine. These have never actually been in conflict, whatever anyone selling one or the other might suggest.
Beware anyone who identifies a curse or a dosha and then sells the remedy for it. That is a business model with a very long history.
